Commanding the IT Lifecycle
The manufacturer of a medical device for diagnostics is often challenged to synchronize the product’s lifecycle with the device’s integrated IT. The reason is fairly simple: A medical device will typically have a much longer lifecycle than most other product categories. This is largely due to the stringent regulations governing the medical device market. On the other hand, a leading IT product will commonly reach its end of life – and yield to new improved versions – much faster than other kinds of products.
Consider the risks in this. There can be a big lifecycle disconnect between the medical device and the hardware and software at its foundation. Too often a medical device maker will find their maturing product to be relying on integrated IT that is coming close to discontinuation or diminished support – or even passing these late-in-life stages.
How, then, can the MDM guarantee customers that they will receive complete product support when some of their product’s critical IT components may soon be outdated?
Solution: end-to-end IT lifecycle management.
At all times in the medical device’s history – from project management through process optimization – the manufacturer must keep the big-picture view on the IT driving their product. They must match the device’s ever-evolving hardware and software to the product’s own improvements. This is key to having the device work effectively for it’s entire life.
But it’s no small task. The medical device maker may lack the resources and expertise – or even the desire – to make IT lifecycle management a core internal competency.
Fortunately, there’s good help to be had. We at Dynamic Computer Corporation take pride in being a quality IT supplier that can offload, manage, and improve the ongoing care of a diagnostic medical device’s IT. We’re proven experts, and we’ll take care of it for you.
